This is a homemade chocolate cherry cake from scratch. Most cherry chocolate cake recipes you find are standard “black forest” cake recipes; many of them use a devils food cake mix. Try this one, it's easy and delicious.
1 1/2 cups Flour
3/4 cup Sugar
1/4 cup Baking cocoa (chocolate)
1 tsp Baking soda
1/8 tsp Salt
10 oz. jar Maraschino cherries
1/3 cup Oil
1/4 cup Water
1 Tb Cider vinegar
1 tsp Vanilla
Oven Temp ~ 350°
Baking Time ~
Pan Type ~ 9 inch square pan
Drain the cherries, reserving the juice, chop cherries coarsely.
Mix the dry ingredients thoroughly in an ungreased pan. Add the "wet" ingredients (cherry juice, oil, water, vinegar, vanilla, and chopped cherries), thoroughly blend again, scraping sides, corners and bottom of pan well.
Bake One Pan Chocolate Cherry Cake until wooden pick comes out clean. Cool chocolate cherry cake in the pan.
