Most of the Chess cake recipes you find on the internet use a box cake recipe. Our Homemade Chess Cake is from scratch using real butter and pecans, resulting in a rich moist cake without all the preservatives.
1 cup Melted butter
2 2/3 cups Brown sugar
2 cups Self-rising flour
1/2 cup White sugar
1/2 cup Chopped nuts, (walnut are fine, pecans are better)
4 Eggs Beaten
1 tsp Real vanilla
Oven Temp ~ 350°
Baking Time ~
Pan Type ~ two 8 inch squares or a 13 inch pan
Mix together all ingredients, spread Chess Cake batter into ungreased
pan or two. Bake cake for about 25 minutes. Do not over bake (allow some spring in the center).
Cool Chess Cake completely before cutting.
Cake should be very moist and chewy.
This is a wonderful cake to bake up, cut into squares and freeze. When unexpected guests show up, thaw and serve.
